Boosting headliners such as Father John Misty, Jack White, The Black Keys, LCD Soundsystem and more, this music festival situated on the banks of the Ohio River is something you won’t want to miss this 2019 season. Integrating the Kentucky bourbon culture into its mix, Forecastle created its own bourbon lounge to gives visitors authentic southern treatment. Offering more than just music, this festival provides various experiences like craft brewery events, poster shows, and amusement park rides. Dedicated to environmental activism, Forecastle has created its own foundation that creates a music festival that aims at equal parts music, art, and activism (their tagline)!

Outside Lands

Often over-shadowed by its California cousin, Coachella, this Bay Area festival celebrates food, wine, music, food, and comedy. Located in Golden Gate Park, Outside Lands is a colder alternative to its hot and sweaty counterparts. Its lineup is never over-shadowed, however. Hailing headliners like The Weeknd, Florence + the Machine, Janet Jackson , Bon Iver, Odesza and other hard hitters, this music festival is one you won’t want to miss. Take a long vacation this August to enjoy the entirety of the festival and then explore the hills of San Francisco!

Newport Folk Festival

Newport, Rhode Island

A staple since 1959, this seasoned folk festival should be on everyone’s radar. Created as a counterpart to Newport’s already established jazz festival, this folk alternative has a history of showcasing legends (Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Peter, Paul, and Mary, and The Pixies to name a few). Today, Newport Folk keeps up with its reputation playing artists like Courtney Barnett, Jenny Lewis, and St. Vincent. Located at Newport’s Fort Adams State Park,  this festival offers panoramic views of the Newport Bridge and East Passage. Make sure to travel to Rhode Island and visit this July festival!

Backwoods Music Festival

Ozark, Arkansas

All about the Festival:

Prepare to get one with nature at this camping and music festival! Held in early June on Mulberry Mountain this non-profit, four-day festival features folk, indie, and EDM genres and has taken the title as a “crossover” festival. Previously held in Oklahoma, Backwoods has relocated to Mulberry Mountain, the site of the legendary Wakarusa Music Festival which celebrated its final year in 2015!

MO POP Festival

Detroit, Michigan

Featuring indie-pop, rock, and hip-hop music, this Detroit music festival Mo Pop is located in West Riverfront Park. Travel to the birthplace of Motown to see seasoned veterans of the music festival game. Finger Lakes GrassRoots Festival of Music + Dance

10-miles north of Ithaca, Finger Lakes Grassroots Festival is committed to showcasing local artists at its scenic location through music and dance. Taking place the second to last weekend in July, this summer festival is in the heat of the season. Presented by one of the founding bands, Donna The Buffalo, this four day festival offers four stages and multiple workshops to promote music and dance!
