Testimonial Tuesday: Emily + Austin

Q: Why did you sign up for your trip? What were you looking to get out of it?

A: While craving a much needed get-away, I read about Pack Up + Go on a travel blog and was instantly hooked on the idea of a ‘surprise’ destination trip. I was hoping for a fun, new location that I’d never been, and I wasn’t disappointed!

Q: Did you have hesitations about taking a surprise trip? Were you nervous?

A:  My only worry was ending up somewhere that would be too similar to the trips we normally take. We were looking to explore somewhere with a different style, and Savannah was the perfect location to do so.

image

Q: Where did you guess you were going to travel? Were you surprised by the destination?

A: After getting our 'hints’, we were betting on Charleston, New Orleans, or Savannah. I was surprised overall by our destination, but after being there, I realized it was the perfect choice based on our initial survey answers.

Q: Upon discovery of your destination, what were some perceptions about your city prior to the trip?

A:  We were definitely expecting some serious HEAT in Savannah in July, but were excited about lots of great restaurants and bars, and charming historic locations.

image

Q: What made the trip feel unique and tailored to you?

A: Our survey answers were definitely taken into account. We love good food, hole-in-the-wall bars, and adventuring in new cities. Walkable Savannah offered all of that and more.

image

Q: What did you like most about your travel accommodations?

A: The location of our hotel was right near the center of everything. It was great being able to walk everywhere and not deal with Uber or renting a car!

Q: What was your favorite experience that we recommended for you?

A: We had a lot of fun going on a local ghost pub crawl, and seeing the historic sites around the city.

image

Q: What did you discover on your own (not on your itinerary) in your destination that you feel is shareworthy?

A: We decided to venture a bit further to the Wormsloe Plantation. The oak trees dripping with Spanish moss along the mile-long driveway were beautiful (and totally Instagram worthy!)

Q: What was your favorite part of your trip?

A: Getting able to experience a new location without the hassle of making our own travel arrangements was amazing. The ease of the process allowed us to focus on relaxing and having fun!

image

Q: What did you learn on your trip, or from your trip?

A: We learned a lot on the trip about the history of Savannah…but I also learned the importance of taking some time off to relax, reset, and just have fun.

Q: How would you describe Pack Up + Go and your experience to your friends and family?

A: Amazing team and an awesome experience!

image

Q: What would you say to someone who is hesitant to go on a surprise getaway

A: Just trust in the process!! My boyfriend was hesitant and wanted to peak once we got our envelope, but ended up having a great time.

Testimonial Tuesday: Molly

Q: Why did you sign up for your trip? What were you looking to get out of it?

A: Every year around my birthday, I like to do something fun/spontaneous.  I had heard about this company from a co-worker who had seen a story about it on TV about a year ago. Immediately when she told me about it I knew I wanted to take a trip. I love to travel and it seemed like a great combination of my interests in travel and doing spontaneous things.  I was looking for a  fun adventure and this trip definitely delivered that.

Q: Did you have hesitations about taking a surprise trip? Were you nervous?

A: My only hesitation was that I would be sent somewhere I had previously traveled to. I made sure to include those places on the survey.

image

Q: Where did you guess you were going to travel? Were you surprised by the destination?

A: I had a few guesses in mind. I had said I liked historical places and liked to go to the beach and to baseball games. My guess was San Francisco, Charleston or Boston.  When I got the email a week before with the weather forecast, I had a feeling it might be Boston or San Francisco because they said to pack a baseball hat. I was really hoping for Boston and was so happy and still surprised that is where I went.

Q: What made the trip feel unique and tailored to you?

A: What I loved most about the trip was that it felt like they listened to everything I mentioned in my survey. I said I enjoyed history so they had several historical places listed as part of their recommendations. I also mentioned baseball and much to my surprise and excitement they had bought me a ticket to a Red Sox game. I had even mentioned in passing that I was going on this trip as a birthday present to myself. When I got back to my hotel on Saturday there was a birthday dessert from the hotel in my room with a nice card. They definitely went above and beyond in every detail of the trip.

Q: What did you like most about your travel accommodations?

A: The hotel was in a great location. As a solo traveler, it was important to me to feel safe and I definitely did. It was a great location and I could walk almost everywhere I wanted to go. The Boston Public Market was only a block away.

image

Q: Upon discovery of your destination, what were some perceptions about your city prior to the trip?

A: Boston was always a city I wanted to visit. I LOVE everything historical so it seemed like a city I would really enjoy.  I didn’t know a lot of specifics about the city so all of the guides that you provided were extremely helpful. I loved how they were broken out by different areas of the city.

Q: What did you discover on your own (not on your itinerary) in your destination that you feel is shareworthy?

A: As a history nerd, I searched for some extra historical places to check out. I went to the JFK Presidential Library and Museum which was awesome. I also found out that they offered whale watching which was on my all time bucket list.

image

Q: What was your favorite part of your trip?

A:  I have a hard time deciding what my favorite thing was. Everyone keeps asking and my answer is everything! However, if I had to pick one thing it would probably be the Red Sox Game. However, you provided so many great recommendations it was hard to decide what I wanted to do. I also really enjoyed the Freedom Trail.

Q: What did you learn on your trip, or from your trip?

A: The entire experience was amazing. I got the idea from other testimonials to get your friends involved in the process so I posted a lot on facebook and had all my friends guessing where I was going. By the last week of my trip everyone was begging me to open the envelope or give it to them so they could figure out where I was going. It actually made me not want to peek even more so I could keep everyone in suspense.  I loved the excitement of not knowing where I was going and to be able to explore a city without having to be anywhere at any particular time. All of the recommendations were perfect.

image

Q: How would you describe Pack Up + Go and your experience to your friends and family?

A: I would describe it as the best kind of trip to take. They take care of all of the reservations and provide wonderful recommendations of what to do while you are there. I appreciate that they don’t book a bunch of things for you once you are in the city and they let you decide what you want to do. It’s traveling without the stress.

Q: What would you say to someone who is hesitant to go on a surprise getaway

A: I would highly encourage them to take a chance on it and try it. You won’t be disappointed. They communicate with you throughout the process and go the extra mile to make sure your trip is special. What do you have to lose? It was honestly one of the best experiences I have ever had and can’t wait to book another trip.

An Austin Vintage Shopping Bonanza

By: Tolly Moseley

While it’s still socially acceptable in most parts of Austin, Texas to saunter around in flip flops and lake-ready cutoffs, that doesn’t mean Austinites don’t enjoy getting a little dolled up every now and then. The preferred style poison? Vintage.

You’ll find no greater concentration of pre-loved than on South Congress, where New Bohemia and Uncommon Objects beckon you in off the street. In New Bohemia, you can dress up yourself, while in Uncommon Objects there are things to dress up your house: it’s stuffed with funky, hip finds ranging from mounted fiddles to dainty lace fans.

New Bohemia Vintage. Image via New Bohemia Facebook page.

Around the corner on Milton Street, Prototype Vintage Design and Feathers Boutique – two impossible cool boutiques –  are neighbors. Both feature excellent, well-curated collections; Prototype has more leather and knits, whereas Feathers has more sparkles and spikes.

Roaming the streets is the throwback trailer of goods that is Amelia’s Retro Vogue and Relics. This is a way, way back machine of mid-1800s to mid-1900s, and anyone with an affinity for Edwardian, Victorian or hats will do well here.

Blue Velvet Vintage. Image via Blue Velvet Facebook page.

Finally, North Loop (technically, 53rd Street), a strip of colorful oddities all by itself, has two shops Tolly, adores – Blue Velvet Vintage and Room Service Vintage. She’s found several easy cotton dresses at Blue Velvet, whose petite interior manages to pack in a surprising amount of variety, and Room Service has helped her decorate every home she’s lived in with their ever-rotating stock of killer furniture and lighting. Just be quick: items are priced to sell, and they do just that in a flash.

About The HUNT Austin Writer: Tolly Moseley is a writer, aerial silks dancer and yoga teacher. All of which means that she spends half her time performing an array of bodily contortions and the other half hunched over a computer. Her work has appeared in Salon, Texas Parks & Wildlife Magazine and the Austin-American Statesman, and on National Public Radio Austin, a well as her parents’ refrigerator. She tells stories about her life on her blog, austineavesdropper.com.

Testimonial Tuesday: Brandy + Greg

image

Q: Why did you sign up for your trip? What were you looking to get out of it?

A: We both work long hours and I was in the middle of a tough semester in grad school. On top of that, we had a hard time deciding on a destination and with our busy schedules, it was hard to plan something on our own. As a result, our trip kept getting pushed back month after month. When we saw a news segment on Pack Up + Go we knew we found the solution and booked that day!

Q: Did you have hesitations about taking a surprise trip? Were you nervous?

A:  No, we were excited! We did not care where we ended up because we were confident we would have a great time anywhere. I was actually less nervous about the travel plans with Pack Up + Go than I have been in the past with travel I booked on my own. The only thing we had to worry about was packing a bag and showing up to the airport on time!

Q: Where did you guess you were going to travel? Were you surprised by the destination?

A: Yes! We guessed a million places before opening the envelope. Our destination did cross my mind among many others. Greg was sure we would be going to Kansas City. I thought we could be going anywhere from Louisville to Portland but my final guess did happen to be correct (New Orleans).

Q: Upon discovery of your destination, what were some perceptions about your city prior to the trip?

A:  I had always thought about New Orleans as a drinking city (which it is) but it is also so much more! We learned a lot about the history of the city during our stay. We loved the atmosphere all around.

image

Q: What made the trip feel unique and tailored to you?

A: I let Pack Up + Go know that we had one vegan traveling with us. We loved that vegan restaurant recommendations were included in our packet! It really helped navigate the food situation which can be difficult sometimes! We also told Pack Up + Go know that we love doing historical tours and they scheduled an AMAZING tour of the Garden District. It was really perfect.

Q: What did you like most about your travel accommodations?

A: Everything! We stayed at the Ritz Carlton and it was better than we could have imagined. We would have been happy staying in the hotel the entire trip, it was so nice.

image

Q: What did you discover on your own (not on your itinerary) in your destination that you feel is shareworthy?

A: There is so much going on in the city all the time. We came across a lovely little mini food festival on a random Wednesday night. There were great local food vendors and lots of live music.

Q: What was your favorite part of your trip?

A: It is hard to choose! I love the surprise element and just exploring the city.

image

Q: What did you learn on your trip, or from your trip?

A: We learned that planning travel does not have to be stressful or time-consuming!

Q: How would you describe Pack Up + Go and your experience to your friends and family?

A: It was fun explaining to family and friends that we were going on a surprise vacation! People would ask “Where are you going” and we would say “We have no idea!”. Then explain the concept. Even on the trip, it was fun explaining to people how we ended up there. Great conversation starter. I would describe Pack Up + Go as a surprise, stress-free travel agency. Everything is taken care of for you so you just have to sit back and enjoy the ride.

Q: What would you say to someone who is hesitant to go on a surprise getaway

A: Just do it! You will not regret it!

Testimonial Tuesday: Nia + Nehemiah

Q: Why did you sign up for your trip? What were you looking to get out of it?

A: I was hoping for a fun, exciting adventure for my husband and I’s wedding anniversary.

image

Q: Did you have any hesitations about taking a surprise trip? Were you nervous?

A: I had no hesitations but my husband was a nervous wreck! He was afraid we’d get sent somewhere we didn’t like or that we wouldn’t “get our money’s worth.”

Q: Where did you guess you were going to travel? Were you surprised by the destination?

A: My husband guessed Boston. I really had no clue. We were both very surprised and excited to find out we were going to Philadelphia.

Q: Upon discovery of your destination, what were some of your perceptions about the city prior to your trip?

A: I thought that Philadelphia was going to be pretty much like every other bigger city I’ve been to, but it was so different.

image

Q: What made the trip feel unique and tailored to you?

A: I felt like whoever wrote the city guides included in our packet knew us personally! There were so many places on there that were right up our alley. Pack Up + Go really took our interests into consideration. The fact that they and the hotel also wished my husband and I a happy anniversary was just the icing on top.

Q: What did you like most about your travel accommodations?

A: I absolutely LOVED the luxury that was our hotel. From the lobby all the way up to our room, we felt like absolute royalty. To know that we got such a nice hotel without even having the highest budget was just amazing.

image

Q: What was your favorite experience that we recommended for you?

A: Visiting the Philadelphia Museum of Art was probably my favorite activity. Not only is it a Philadelphia landmark, but it’s also breathtakingly beautiful.

Q: What did you discover on your own (not on your itinerary) in your destination that you feel is share-worthy?

A: Harbor Park in Penn’s Landing is definitely a must see for anyone who visits Philadelphia in the summer.

Q: What was your favorite part of your trip?

A: It’s so hard to pick just one favorite part of our trip. Everything from opening the envelope all the way until we headed home was amazing.

Q: If you could do the trip over again, what would you do differently?

A: If I could do the trip over again, I’d try to squeeze in more restaurants and activities into those three days. There’s so much we didn’t get to do.

image

Q: What did you learn on your trip, or from your trip?

A: I learned a lot about the rich history of Philadelphia that I had no idea about.

Q: How would you describe Pack Up + Go and your experience to your friends and family?

A: I have raved about my Pack Up + Go experience to just about everyone I’ve come in contact with since I booked our trip. I tell everyone what an amazing experience it was from beginning to end. Some of my friends and family members are now booking Pack Up + Go trips of their own!

Q: What would you say to someone who is hesitant to go on a surprise getaway?

A: I would tell them that it is truly a one of a kind experience. It’s so nice to not have to worry about planning anything. All you have to do is focus on having a good time. Plus, the excitement of waiting to know where you’re going and not finding out until the day you leave is like no other excitement you’ll ever experience. Everyone could use a little adventure once in a while!
