Testimonial Tuesday: Sami, Nicole + Molly

Q: Why did you sign up for your trip? What were you looking to get out of it?

A: I originally heard about Pack Up + Go from a travel group on Facebook. It sounded intriguing but I wasn’t sure if I would be able to give up the control of trip planning to someone else. Fast forward to a few weeks later when myself and 2 friends were trying to plan our vacation. Between the 3 of us, we couldn’t agree on a place to go. After about an hour of searching flights and destinations, I mentioned Pack Up + Go. We pulled up the website, looked at the information, and booked our trip that night.

Q: Did you have hesitations about taking a surprise trip? Were you nervous?

A: I was extremely nervous!! I’m a very “Type A” person. I love to research where I’m going, plan out what activities I want to do, where I want to eat, etc. So not having any idea of where I was going was a bit nerve-wracking.

Q: Where did you guess you were going to travel? Were you surprised by the destination?

A: From the day we booked our vacation, we were constantly playing the guessing game. Once we got our “hints” in the email a week before departure, we thought for sure it would be either Washington DC or Boston (we were wrong).

Q: Upon discovery of your destination, what were some perceptions about your city prior to the trip?

A: We opened the envelope and it said “Philadelphia” and while we were excited, it wasn’t a big name place like DC or Boston. I don’t know many people who are really excited to say they are going on vacation to Philadelphia. But we knew we were going to have an amazing time no matter where we went, and we were still very excited (the TSA guy at security asked if we were going to Vegas because we were so hyped up and noisy).

Q: What made the trip feel unique and tailored to you?

A: Every note we received prior to the trip was personalized. Lillian referred to us by name, made comments regarding things we filled out in the survey, and we could genuinely tell she planned this trip specifically for us. When we checked in at the front desk of the hotel, they knew that we were on a Pack Up + Go trip. When we arrived at the hotel room, there was a bottle of Champagne and a birthday card - all little details that made the trip feel special and unique!

Q: What did you like most about your travel accommodations?

A: The hotel was gorgeous and the location couldn’t have been better. During the day when we explored Philly, we could leave the hotel and walk in any direction and reach some type of fun activity/historical sight within 10-15 minutes of leisurely walking. At night, we’d take a Lyft to get around town and we’d be there within 10 minutes.

Q: What was your favorite experience that we recommended for you?

A: The Magic Gardens. We spent almost 2 hours exploring there and probably could’ve spent even more time. I’ve never seen anything like that before and it was amazing.

Q: If you could do the trip over again what would you do differently?

A: I wouldn’t do anything differently.

Q: What did you discover on your own (not on your itinerary) in your destination that you feel is shareworthy?

A: A few restaurants worth mentioning: El Vez - the BEST nachos we’ve ever had! Sabrina’s - about 3 blocks from the hotel, great brunch *needs reservations on the weekend*, Tir na nOg - Irish pub less than a block from the hotel.

Q: What was your favorite part of your trip?

A: The suspense of not knowing where we were going and the excitement at the airport when we opened the envelope! I also loved that the trip felt very “organic” - since we weren’t able to plan/research beforehand, we were able to be very go-with-the-flow, be present, and enjoy where we were.

Q: What did you learn on your trip, or from your trip?

A: Philadelphia is a very underrated city! It’s OK to let go sometimes. I was very worried because I like to plan every detail before a trip and be very knowledgeable about where I’m going, so this trip was out of my comfort zone. Make friends with the locals! We quickly made friends with the hotel bartender and he had so many good recommendations for us. He made sure we made the best of our time in Philly.

Q: How would you describe Pack Up + Go and your experience to your friends and family?

A: I’ve been asked this many times since we’ve returned. I always reply with “It’s the best.” Lillian and the Pack Up + Go team made sure that we had everything that we needed from start to finish. You can tell they put a lot of time and thought into making sure we had the best trip.

Q: What would you say to someone who is hesitant to go on a surprise getaway

A: Do it! You will not regret it. The number of memories + experiences I took away from this trip are priceless. We were already planning when to take our next Pack Up + Go trip before we even made it home from Philadelphia!

Testimonial Tuesday: Jasmine + McKenzie

Q: Why did you sign up for your trip? What were you looking to get out of it?

A: McKenzie and I like to plan a trip once a year - this year, we wanted a weekend trip for our birthdays. We began looking at locations (Seattle, Boston, etc.) and couldn’t seem to fit in everything we wanted with the budget we had in mind. We also work pretty stressful jobs and just didn’t have the time to truly plan out a trip. McKenzie heard about Pack Up + Go and, after looking at the website and reading testimonials, we decided to take the leap on a surprise trip!

Q: Did you have hesitations about taking a surprise trip? Were you nervous?

A: The only hesitation was possibly going somewhere we didn’t really want to go to. We talked about it and realized that as long as the hotel was great and we had restaurants to eat at, we would be able to make any place work.

Q: Where did you guess you were going to travel? Were you surprised by the destination?

A: When we first received the forecast, we immediately guessed New Orleans or the East Coast. One recommendation, don’t do what I did and search forecasts - after I did that, I eventually guessed Philadelphia so I wasn’t as surprised by the location once we opened the envelope (we still waited to open at the airport).

image

Q: Upon discovery of your destination, what were some perceptions about your city prior to the trip?

A: My dad is from Philly, so I already knew the city from my family’s point of view. It had been years since I had been back so I was excited to see the city from a tourist perspective. McKenzie was excited because Philly wasn’t a city that she would’ve planned to go visit.

Q: What made the trip feel unique and tailored to you?

A: From the first confirmation email to the packet of information, and the bottle of champagne waiting in the hotel, the entire trip felt tailored to us. We really felt that Pack Up + Go took all of our likes and wants into consideration with the activity and restaurant suggestions. Lillian was so responsive via email and everything was perfect!

image

Q: What did you like most about your travel accommodations?

A: I don’t know if there is one specific favorite! We love to eat and the restaurant suggestions were on the money. We did love the suggestions from the local as well which gave us another perspective of the city.

Q: What was your favorite experience that we recommended for you?

A: We had breakfast at the restaurant attached to the hotel, Urban Farmer, and it was amazing! Such a great breakfast to start out the day. We also did all of the Independence Hall, Liberty Bell, etc. activities. As for cheese-steaks, we didn’t want to Uber to Pat or Geno’s so we went to Sonny’s which was recommended by folks we asked along the way. Delicious!

image

Q: If you could do the trip over again what would you do differently?

A: I would recommend getting folks to the destination early on the first day and leaving earlier on the last day. We had so much fun the first two days that we were quite exhausted come the last day and ended up waiting at the hotel until we could head to the airport!

Q: What did you discover on your own (not on your itinerary) in your destination that you feel is shareworthy?

A: We had breakfast at the restaurant attached to the hotel, Urban Farmer, and it was amazing! Such a great breakfast to start out the day. We also did all of the Independence Hall, Liberty Bell, etc. activities. As for cheese-steaks, we didn’t want to Uber to Pat or Geno’s so we went to Sonny’s which was recommended by folks we asked along the way. Delicious!

Q: What was your favorite part of your trip?

A: Not having to plan a single thing and having an amazing experience when we got to our final destination. The amount of detail Pack Up + Go put into our trip didn’t go unnoticed!

Q: What did you learn on your trip, or from your trip?

A: I learned to keep an open mind about everything! I already knew Philly from my family but, after my trip, I have a completely different perspective on the city.

Q: How would you describe Pack Up + Go and your experience to your friends and family?

A: It is probably one of the best travel experiences I’ve ever had! I would recommend everyone book a trip with Pack Up + Go!

image

Q: What would you say to someone who is hesitant to go on a surprise getaway

A: Be open-minded! You don’t know what gems you will find in the city they send to you and as long as you have a comfy bed and good food, you can make anything work for three days!

Testimonial Tuesday: Nia + Nehemiah

Q: Why did you sign up for your trip? What were you looking to get out of it?

A: I was hoping for a fun, exciting adventure for my husband and I’s wedding anniversary.

image

Q: Did you have any hesitations about taking a surprise trip? Were you nervous?

A: I had no hesitations but my husband was a nervous wreck! He was afraid we’d get sent somewhere we didn’t like or that we wouldn’t “get our money’s worth.”

Q: Where did you guess you were going to travel? Were you surprised by the destination?

A: My husband guessed Boston. I really had no clue. We were both very surprised and excited to find out we were going to Philadelphia.

Q: Upon discovery of your destination, what were some of your perceptions about the city prior to your trip?

A: I thought that Philadelphia was going to be pretty much like every other bigger city I’ve been to, but it was so different.

image

Q: What made the trip feel unique and tailored to you?

A: I felt like whoever wrote the city guides included in our packet knew us personally! There were so many places on there that were right up our alley. Pack Up + Go really took our interests into consideration. The fact that they and the hotel also wished my husband and I a happy anniversary was just the icing on top.

Q: What did you like most about your travel accommodations?

A: I absolutely LOVED the luxury that was our hotel. From the lobby all the way up to our room, we felt like absolute royalty. To know that we got such a nice hotel without even having the highest budget was just amazing.

image

Q: What was your favorite experience that we recommended for you?

A: Visiting the Philadelphia Museum of Art was probably my favorite activity. Not only is it a Philadelphia landmark, but it’s also breathtakingly beautiful.

Q: What did you discover on your own (not on your itinerary) in your destination that you feel is share-worthy?

A: Harbor Park in Penn’s Landing is definitely a must see for anyone who visits Philadelphia in the summer.

Q: What was your favorite part of your trip?

A: It’s so hard to pick just one favorite part of our trip. Everything from opening the envelope all the way until we headed home was amazing.

Q: If you could do the trip over again, what would you do differently?

A: If I could do the trip over again, I’d try to squeeze in more restaurants and activities into those three days. There’s so much we didn’t get to do.

image

Q: What did you learn on your trip, or from your trip?

A: I learned a lot about the rich history of Philadelphia that I had no idea about.

Q: How would you describe Pack Up + Go and your experience to your friends and family?

A: I have raved about my Pack Up + Go experience to just about everyone I’ve come in contact with since I booked our trip. I tell everyone what an amazing experience it was from beginning to end. Some of my friends and family members are now booking Pack Up + Go trips of their own!

Q: What would you say to someone who is hesitant to go on a surprise getaway?

A: I would tell them that it is truly a one of a kind experience. It’s so nice to not have to worry about planning anything. All you have to do is focus on having a good time. Plus, the excitement of waiting to know where you’re going and not finding out until the day you leave is like no other excitement you’ll ever experience. Everyone could use a little adventure once in a while!
