Back in March, Pack Up + Go called for submissions to design our new postcard that will be included with every surprise envelope that we send to our travelers!
We were extremely lucky to have received many beautiful works of illustration, including two designs from our first winner, Sabrina Crarey!
From the Designer
What is your name?
Sabrina Crarey, designer + illustrator
Where do you call home?
What inspires your design work the most?
I'm inspired by nature, Disney, other illustrators and street artists. I also create afro-centric art cause I love my natural curly hair and want to share that love with other curly-haired women!
What are your favorite mediums to work with?
I love using acrylics, colored pencils, watercolor and doing digital designs. I also do mixed media scrap-booking for fun.
What about your art are you most proud of?
I am most proud of how versatile my art is. In my career, I have done logos, murals, children's books, paintings and even t-shirt design! I enjoy trying new things and expressing my art in different ways.
What do you enjoy most about creating?
I love the start of projects the most. Allowing your mind to think of all the possibilities, sketching ideas, etc. I also love getting into "the zone" when you start a project and the pure adrenaline you get when you create something.
What challenges have you faced as a creator?
I think one of the biggest challenges I've faced is finding stability in being an artist. I'm graphic designer as my full-time job but it took several years to get to the place I am today. There were times I wanted to give up and find a more "practical" job but I have loved creating art since I was a child. I knew there was nothing else in life I wanted to do. I believe the saying, "If you do what you love, you never work a day in your life." I'm thankful I get to do what I love for a living!
What do you think makes you unique?
Any type of art I create for people, whether its a painting or a logo, I really take the time to learn + understand my client. I research their likes + dislikes, wants, etc. I can tune into what I think they'll like and am usually able to deliver a piece they love. I've often been called a mind-reader!
If you had to describe your style in 3 words, what would they be?
Whimsical, Vibrant + Funky
Anything else you want to tell us about your art, style, or process?
I love creating art that makes people smile, what better joy is there?
The Fun Stuff
What is your favorite spot to visit in the Atlanta, GA?
I love going to Ponce City Market. Great shops and food!
What is your favorite food or restaurant to enjoy in your city?
I love Thai, Jamaican and Japanese food. One of my favorite restaurants is Negril Village in downtown Atlanta. Best Jamaican in town!
What is your favorite spot in the U.S to travel to + why?
San Francisco, CA by far is my favorite place to visit. There's so much to see and do! My favorite spot in San Francisco is by the beach overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge. Anytime I can be in front of the ocean, is my happy place.
Which of the five senses do you appreciate the most when you travel and why?
The sense of sight is the best by far. Just taking in all the amazing sights and new places to experience. If I could choose my second favorite, it would be taste. I love to eat and the best part about travel is trying local food!
Do you have a travel memory that is important to you?
One of my favorite travel memories was in 2012, celebrating my 30th birthday in Loma Linda, CA with a bunch of my closest college friends. They surprised me by inviting classmates I hadn't seen since college. It was such a wonderful experience being around all the people I loved.
