Giving Tuesday is a day of giving, fueled by the power of social media + collaboration. Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday reminds everyone to be charitable and community-focused during the holiday season. The Pack Up + Go team feels passionately about highlighting the importance of compassion, and supporting the work of organizations that have a positive impact on communities around the country and abroad.
This year, Pack Up + Go will donate to The International Rescue Committee (IRC). From Friday, November 23-Tuesday, November 27, a portion of proceeds from all trips booked will go directly to this important and meaningful organization that celebrates the Thanksgiving spirit of welcoming friends, family, and those in need into our communities.
The IRC is a global humanitarian aid, relief, and development non-governmental organization that was founded in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein, originally to support those suffering from the persecution of the Hitler regime. Since then, it has evolved to offer emergency aid and long-term assistance to refugees and those displaced by war, persecution, or natural disaster around the world. They work to serve those whose lives have been upended by offering nourishment, resettling services, and health care to help people rebuild their lives.
In 2017, the IRC provided primary health care to 23 million individuals and offered aid to 2 million adults + children affected by hunger crises around the world. In the United States, they offer legal and professional assistance for refugees, and have over 5,200 volunteers nationwide. To learn more about their work, head to their website! You can also donate or sign up to be a volunteer.
Our team is thankful for the safety and security we feel in our everyday lives, and want to offer support to those around us who have not had the same fortune due to violence, terror, famine, and natural disasters. This holiday season, we hope you will join us in that effort!
